Activities & Destinations
Start right from your cabin or wander farther into the Adirondacks.
Right From Camp
Chimney Mountain
Our namesake and a local favorite. This is a rewarding 45-minute hike of moderate difficulty, with a short but steep final climb. At the top you’ll find unique rock formations and sweeping Adirondack views.
-
Ice caves line the ridge overlooking the cabins, and snow can linger in deeper crevices well into summer
-
Trailhead is in the back corner of the field to the right of the barn
-
Do not take the road to the left of the barn
-
Avoid the trail behind the Sugarhouse cabin, this leads toward Puffer Pond instead
Puffer Pond
A quiet mountain pond tucked between Puffer and Bullhead Mountains. Two trails reach the pond, both under 2 hours.
-
Shorter, steeper route: Begins behind the Sugarhouse cabin and ends mid-way along the north shore
-
Longer, easier route: Begins across the inlet
-
Cross the Carroll Brook footbridge
-
Follow the flow and take the first left
-
Keep Puffer Pond Brook on your right (do not cross it) as you climb the valley
-
-
The two trails can be combined into a scenic loop
Round Pond
An easy, mostly level hike, less than one hour, to a secluded deep-woods pond.
-
Cross the dam at the end of the flow to find the trailhead
-
At the split above the dam, take the trail to the left
Humphrey Mountain & Garnet Mine
Looking south down the flow, the double-peaked cone-shaped mountain is Humphrey Mountain.
-
An open-pit garnet mine sits more than ¾ of the way up
-
Look closely for old blasting bore holes and scattered rubble
-
With patience, thumb-sized garnets can still be found
-
The clearing along Kettle Brook marks where the miners once lived
-
Estimated hiking time: 2½ hours one way
Kings Flow Circuit
A classic half-day (~4 hour) loop hike around the flow.
-
Pick up the trail over the dam
-
Bear left at every trail split
-
Pass Round Pond
-
Cross Wakely Brook
-
Continue through clearings at Humphrey Brook
-
Cross “Two Brooks” (Woodpecker Notch Brook & Puffer Pond Brook)
-
Cross the Carroll Brook footbridge
-
Return to camp across the inlet
